Celebrating motherhood

An ode to the indomitable mother. After Saranya bagged the National Award for her poignant portrayal of a nurturing mother in Thenmerkku Paruvakaattru, comes another movie celebrating motherhood — Ottha Veedu.

Directed by journo-turned-filmmaker Balu Malarvannan, veteran actress Vadivukkarasi plays the central character of the mother.

Jhanavi from Anupam Kher’s acting school, 'Actor Prepares', is making her foray into Tamil, with first-time actor Dileep Kumar in the male lead.

The film is said to throw light on the numerous superstitious beliefs prevalent in the villages.

Speaking to this newspaper, Balu said, “There is an element of fear lurking within many of us when we discuss supernatural powers like ghosts and evil spirits. In the past, films of this genre have only succeeded in scaring audiences. My film, however, will be different. I am trying to provide a solution to mysterious happenings”.

M.S. Bhaskar appears in an important role and producer Thiraviya Pandiyan plays a menacing villain. Award-winning composer Dashi has scored the music.

A festival song was recently canned on Dileep at a real amman temple in Villivalam village, in which thousands of local villagers took part as a goodwill gesture.

Since everyone was asked to do rehearsals before the shooting started, the director says he can complete the film in 25 days.
